Coolest Ladybug Birthday Cake

I used my largest mixing bowl to cook this Homemade Ladybug Birthday Cake in. Choose any of yours that you think would be a good size. I used waxed paper specially made to line the bowl, just at the top. My bowl had a little bit of a flat area on the bottom. It still didn’t seem tall enough. I had a big round cake pan that I made another layer in (that was the same circumference as the other) then set one from the bowl on top.

I cooked a small amount of batter in a small mixing bowl for the face. I make homemade frosting in order to make it a very thick consistency. I work with frozen cakes. Then I can kind of mold the frosting and even smooth it out with my fingers or a knife dipped in hot water. When I am done I put it back in the freezer, bringing it out to thaw the night before the party.

For the face color I used a very small amount of light creme color, I found some kind of a deep pink, adding a little red, and black food coloring. It matched my daughters party decorations really well. My goal had been to make a 3-D ladybug that would look her in the face! She loved it and so did the guests.
