Coolest Lego Mini Figure Birthday Cake

This Homemade Lego Mini Figure Birthday Cake was made for my son’s Lego themed 8th Birthday Party. I will admit to using ready made Madeira cake and ready made roll out icing, so not much a home-made cake, but a home-constructed one!

The proportions are approx 1/3 head and 2/3 body and legs. The head was a square piece of cake with an offcut stuck on top and the same stuck between head and body.

The body and legs started as an oblong, slightly wider than the head. The widest part is the bottom of the arms. I carved the arms by making 2 vertical cuts parallel to the head but only to a depth of half the cake. I then sliced through from the sides to make the arms lower than the body with some diagonal shaping to make the shoulders.

The legs are shaped with some offcuts at the knees (these can be fairly shallow) and also some for the feet. I use professional colouring dyes to get the deep colours for the roll out icing. I use a jam and water mix heated in the microwave and then brushed over the cake to fix the icing in place.

Roll out and lay the yellow icing over the head and cut any excess before fixing in place. Repeat for red and blue icing.

The hands are made out of leftover yellow icing and I used cut up licorice for the eyes and mouth.
