Coolest Lego Ninjago on Spinner Birthday Cake

I made this Lego Ninjago Cake for my son’s 7th birthday, last year (February 2011).

The spinner is a large round homemade cake covered in icing and then fondant. I colored the fondant blue and then rolled some of the extra blue fondant thicker and cut out circles for the dots on the spinner and wrote out LEGO on each circle with blue icing. For the white and blue designs on the spinner I drew the design on paper cut it out and placed it on top of rolled out white fondant. I then cut around my pattern and placed it on the spinner. I used blue icing to add the “face” to the white designs.

I made the Lego Ninja out of the Lego Minifigure Cake mold. I was going to use white chocolate, but it seemed to heavy, so I pressed Rice Krispy Treat into the mold instead. I then covered the Rice Krispy Ninja with white, blue, yellow and black fondant and put dowel rods in it to hold it upright on the cake (the eyes and eyebrows can also be done by drawing or printing out eyes, cutting them out, placing on fondant and cutting them out of the fondant).

My son and his friends all LOVED the cake!

(I would like to experiment a little more with using chocolate and the Lego Minifigure mold though. Maybe make a thick shell out of it, instead of filling it with chocolate? Chocolate seemed to come out a lot neater than fondant did.)
