It’s red, it’s fast it’s Lightning McQueen! My son like many three year old’s out there is big into cars and anything that has a motor in it so making a cars cake was a no brainer. But we want to do things out of the ordinary, and seeing as the cars cake pan in stores was rather simplistic, we decided to see if we could make a fondant Lightning Mcqueen cars cake ourselves.
This is our first fondant cake and we wanted it to be recognizable so the first thing we did was sketch lightning in profile view and study pictures of both other attempts on the internet as well as look at the many pictures of lightning we had lying about the house on nearly every toy, book, cup, shirt, well you get the idea.
Then after that we baked a 9×13 sheet cake and cut it and stacked it into a 3 layer 4.2×9 cake, gave it a thin layer of buttercreamm frosting, laid out some fondant and wala! Lightning Mcqueen!
