Coolest Lola Cake

I made this Lola cake for a friend of a friend, who wanted a Lola cake for her daughter’s 2nd birthday. For her face, I made two 8″ cakes (using cake pans), and sandwiched the two together with chocolate buttercream.

Next, I carved the shape of her face using, a picture as a guide, then covered it with flesh coloured sugarpaste (which I coloured myself by adding a small amount of orange ready-coloured sugarpaste to white).

For the eyes, I cut out the shapes using one of the cutters from the Geometric cutter set (FMM), including the circles of her eyes (which are part of the same cutter set).

Her mouth is just a small amount of black sugarpaste, and I drew the nose on myself using an edible colour pen.

For the body, I carved a small amount of cake (having made a smaller one previously) into a sort of square shape, coated it in buttercream and then covered it with red sugarpaste.

For the collars on the dress, I used the same cutter as I did for the eyes, then cut it in half, and I used silver sugar balls for the buttons. The arms are just sugarpaste rolled out to form the shape of her arms. The strawberry was made using a strawberry cookie cutter and the green leaf was cut with a calyx cutter.

All in all, I think it was a really good first attempt at a cartoon character and I was extremely happy with the results, as were my friend’s friends.
