Coolest Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

This homemade Mickey Mouse birthday cake actually came to be after finding another cake on this website!!

I wanted to do a Mickey cake for my son but did not like the cake pans available by Wilton (except for one that was no longer available and selling on eBay for WAY too much money). I thought it would be easier to make a Mickey cake on a regular cake shape but how could I do that?

Then I found some pictures and a how-to and decided it could definitely be done thereby saving the money on a shaped cake pan and maybe using this same technique with future cakes (which I just did with Goofy which I am going to submit to this site as well).

I actually used the Wilton cake pan picture and enlarged it to outline this Mickey on the cake; the inside had to be done by free hand looking at the picture. I also used the Wilton directions for frosting Mickey on the cake (found on the Wilton website). Since Disney always uses the Mickey ears all over the theme parks, I thought of adding them to the side of the cake just for that extra Disney touch.

The homemade Mickey Mouse birthday cake was a big hit!! The inside is just chocolate cake and the icing a simple buttercream recipe. I am still working on icing the main cake without getting all the crumbs in the icing but everyone loved the cake anyway. Mickey Mouse was the most important part and he came out terrific!!
