Coolest Minnie Mouse Cake

I used an 8-inch round pan and two 2-inch round pans. You will have to double the cake batter but you can use the left over for cupcakes.

While the cakes cooled, I prepared my icing using the Wilton buttercream recipe but I added about a 1/4 cup more of the shortening (this helped the icing keep its shape). To get the flesh color of Minnie’s face I used a dab of pink color mixed with brown (I had to add a little brown to get it right).

Using another cake I saw on this site as a guide, I used the star tip and applied the flesh color of Minnie’s face. I then mixed a little cocoa powder in the icing mix and black color and then used the star tip to finish off the face and ears. Making the frosting chocolate allowed me to use less of the black color which can sometimes alter the icing taste. I saved a small amount of white icing to use on the eyes and then added some red color for the mouth.

Using a writing tip, I trimmed the eyes and mouth with black frosting. For the bow, I colored fondant hot pink and applied some small white fondant dots to the bow with water. I let the bow dry over night and sat it on top on the ears. I used toothpicks to help support the bow.
