Coolest Monster Jam Mayhem Cake

I did this Monster Jam themed cake for my son’s birthday. It is a 1/4 sheet pan layered cake. I used a mix of chocolate and vanilla icing sprinkled with crushed Oreo’s to simulate the dirt field with half Oreos outling the field like tires. I used a donut for “donut patrol’s” ramp. The ring of fire was from one of the kids’ hot wheels sets. The edge of the cake is surrounded with checked black ribbon (found at Hobby Lobby) to look like the flag they use and then embellished it with stickers from Hot Wheels and Monster Jam. The signs were made by printing off my computer with heavy duty paper (to handle the moisture, especially since the cake was made a day ahead and kept in the fridge) and inserted in the cake with Popsicle sticks.

In making the ramp for King Krunch – I made part of the cake in a bundt pan. After it cooled I wrapped it in plastic and froze it making it easy to sculpt. I find that using the Wilton Recipe for “Pound Cake from Cake Mix” recipe is helpful with making a sturdy yet tasty cake for decorating.
