Coolest New Moon (Twilight Saga) Birthday Cake

I made this New Moon (Twilight Saga) Birthday Cake for Anna, daughter of by BFF Carolyn. She and her friends were going to watch New Moon following her birthday party.

I smooth iced a half sheet cake. In a 1/4 jelly roll pan I baked a very thin cake. Once baked, I cut in half and placed both pieces together to form the book. I trimmed the edges to make nice clean line. I tinted marshmallow fondant black and wrapped the “book” once it was iced. I took a fork and pastry brush to the three open sides to make look like pages. Then carefully placed on the sheet cake. Using different shades of piping gel and buttercream I hand painted the peony on the cover of the book. Buttercream was used to write the authors name. I used Royal icing to write New Moon and once dried, painted the letters with Silver Shimmer Dust.

The rest of the cake was simply decorated with red and black buttercream that I glazed with silver shimmer thinned with clear vanilla. The girls loved this cake and even used the pictures as wallpaper on their phones!
