Coolest Ninja Turtle Cake

My nephew was visiting from overseas with his family and the night before they departed back home, my sisters and I decided to make and surprise him with an early birthday cake and what better than his favorite kind, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We chose to go with Raphael just because we figured we had enough red food coloring for his bandanna. (lol).

CAKE:
We just baked a regular yellow cake in a Wilton 12 inch round cake pan (don’t forget to line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal). After letting the cake completely cool off, I just carved and sculpted the head as best as I could.

FROSTING:
For the green frosting, I simply just bought food coloring and vanilla frosting. I mixed the green food coloring in with the vanilla frosting until I got the perfect shade of green I wanted. For the bandanna  I just mixed red food coloring in with a little bit of vanilla frosting. The end of bandanna where you see it’s tied off was made from the scraps of cake I cut off while carving the head and then frosted with the red icing. I bought black icing to outline the edges and used whatever vanilla frosting I had left for the eyes and teeth.

My nephew had been asking for a Ninja Turtle cake since he came to visit and I just knew this was the perfect parting gift for him. He even asked us to make him another one and send it to him. LOL! I’ll never forget the look on his face when we surprised him with it. :) ♥
