Coolest Peacock Birthday Cake

I made this Peacock birthday cake for my daughter for her 24th birthday. She is a September baby and I wanted something with the sapphire color in it since it is her birth stone.

The body of the peacock is made of rice crispy treats and covered in fondant. I used various shades of blue, green and purple fondant for the feathers using a leaf shaped cookie cutter to make the feathers. I used a larger leaf shaped cookie cutter for the wings. I used fondant to make the letters and numbers. I added on edible pearls to the feathers and wings. I dusted everything with blue and purple pearl dust so it would glimmer.

The cake is a basic white almond sour cream cake dyed a dark teal color. The frosting is homemade butter cream dyed a pale teal and applied with a ruffle tip. I wanted the look of soft feathers for the frosting.

This cake was a true labor of love as it was the most difficult cake I have ever made. Several times I thought about changing the cake as it was turning out to be very frustrating but I am so glad I stayed with it as it turned out so pretty!

  1. I’m glad you didn’t give up – this cake is beautiful!! What a great idea to use rice crispy treats to fill in the fondant. I love the whole design, I bet your daughter was very impressed with her cake.
