Coolest Pink Whale Birthday Cake

For my twins second birthday, they were obsessed with whales. So I decided to try my hand at making a shaped cake for the first time and made this pink whale birthday cake. I used store bought cake mix and made a rectangular cake for the “water”.

For the body of the whale, I used a small Pyrex bowl. For the tail, I used a small loaf pan, then cut it into the shape I wanted. I frosted the pieces with store bought frosting, then covered them with fondant that I made from a recipe I found online. This was my first time making fondant and it turned out quite well. I wanted it to be pink, since they are girls, and I used regular grocery store food coloring to color the fondant.

For the spray, I used floral wire and the hearts at the ends are made of purple fondant that I cut out by hand. The eyes are Reese’s pieces. Overall I was very happy with the way it turned out and my girls were so excited when they saw it!
