Coolest Pipe Band Drum Cake

My Dad is a drummer in a pipe band so I thought I’d make him a Drum cake for his 60th birthday. I made 3 cakes (10″ I think) and layered them, putting jam between each one then covering the whole cake in butter cream icing. I then covered it in black fondant and used ivory fondant for the top of the drum. For the bits up the sides (not that technical with drums to know what they’re called!) I covered long pencil shaped sweets with black fondant then added silver balls to the top of each one.

The picture on the cake is the logo of my Dad’s band. I had ordered it to be printed on rice paper online but it didn’t arrive on time. After calling every bakery in the area, I found one who printed it onto an edible icing sheet for me.

I then shaped the drumsticks with darker ivory fondant and placed them onto the cake. My Dad was absolutely delighted with his cake as was everyone at his party.
