Coolest Pirate Ship Cake

First time I’ve ever tried a shaped cake and it didn’t turn out half bad, actually. I used two loaf pans as it didn’t need to serve many people. The pirate ship cake is chocolate marbled pound cake with peanut butter buttercream icing on top, and chocolate buttercream on the sides.

I put the bottom layer on my cake board, then sliced the other layer into basically thirds. Held one of the end pieces in my hand and iced the bottom of it. Then placed it on top of the bottom layer. Shaped the bow into a rounded shape as I felt a more pointy bow would likely break when I tried to get it iced. Used the other end piece to form the ‘poop deck'(no shaping required here).

I used cake dowels for the masts, and paper cut outs for the sails. I found a birthday card with a pirate theme and cut the scull and crossbones out of it to glue on the sails. Also a pirate map that I placed on the cake board beside the cake. I also used cookie sticks to secure the bow and the poop to the cake, for insurance. Two in each piece. The ratlines are made of royal icing, as is the ladders.
