Coolest Popcorn Birthday Cake

My daughter has a huge interest in going to any new released show so I decided to make her a movie themed cake for her 18th birthday. I was worried she would think this Popcorn Birthday Cake was a little “young”, but she loved it.

The pop corn was really fun. I made some homemade marshmallow fondant (thanks youtube!) and rolled it out into little “popped corn”. I was torn at first about it looking realistic and considered using real pop corn on a fake topper, but think the final product turned out great. It was by far the most creative thing to make on the cake.

For the bucket part of the cake, I didn’t have access to cool pan shapes so I improvised and used a large glass measuring cup (basically looked like a giant cupcake after cooking, and I kept the arch for added height).

You can’t really see in the picture, but the film strip is really detailed and looked like the “reel” deal.

The entire cake took about four hours to decorate. It received a lot of ooh’s and ahh’s and to be honest it was pretty easy. I would definitely encourage you to try something similar!
