Coolest Princess and the Frog Princess Tiana Birthday Cake

I made this Princess and the Frog Princess Tiana Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 5th birthday party. I made lily pad cupcakes for the party but wanted something stand out and special just for my daughter. I have seen parties where parents give 1 year old’s smash cakes, so I thought a great idea would be to make that concept age appropriate and give her a personal cake.

I started with a basic vanilla cake recipe and baked it in a 6″ round pan. I cut the cake in half after it was cooled and filled it with lots of vanilla frosting and then frosted it with vanilla buttercream. I learned how to make marshmallow fondant to decorate the lily pad cupcakes I made for the party and decided to cover the cake with the fondant, as well. I tinted the fondant lavender color and covered the cake with the fondant. Then, I added lavender luster powder to the cake. I tinted buttercream frosting with teal food coloring and then piped swags onto the fondant.

To get the measurements for the swags just right, I took the round plastic top from a Gerber’s puffs snack container and used it as a guide. I found a Princess Tianna cake topper online and a matching No. 5 candle at a discount store to finish it off. She was so excited when she saw her cake and everyone thought it was just a decoration!
