Coolest Princess Castle Birthday Cake

I made this Princess Castle cake as a joint birthday cake for two of my friends when we came back to univeristy after the summer holidays.

I started with an 8″ sq sponge cake, made from four eggs and 200g each of butter, caster sugar and self-raising flour. I cut the cake in half and filled it with vanilla butter icing and jam. I then cut the cake slightly at the bottom and top to shape it.

This was supposed to be a very girly cake so I chose a colour scheme of pink, white, purple and pale blue. I used ready-made white roll out icing, and coloured it myself, using food dyes. I covered the cake with white roll out icing, apart from the middle section which I covered with blue icing.

I then cut out and attached the purple roofs, pink towers, blue door and white windows. The windows are decorated with ready-made sugar flowers and the decorations and writing were done using Barbie glitter writing icing. I outlined the roofs, and drew small dots around the windows and doors, as well as writing “Happy Birthday Hannah and Steph”. If this cake was just for one person, you could write their name in the centre, where I have written ‘and’.

I drew and cut out templates so that all the roofs, windows and towers were the same sizes. If you didn’t want to put flowers at the windows, you could use writing icing to draw in princesses instead.
