I made this Homemade R2D2 Birthday Cake for my son’s 6th birthday party. He loves Star Wars and so we decided on an R2D2 birthday cake. He usually ends up having to bring his own cupcake to birthday parties because of food allergies so I can not begin to explain how much he loved being able to dive into this cake the day of his party.

I baked the cake using his favorite peanut, tree nut and egg free chocolate cake recipe. I used the Wilton R2D2 cake pan but did my own interpretation on the decorating with different shades of blue Wilton pre made fondant. The fondant also did a better job of covering up the chocolate cake beneath! The top of the cake was a bit of a challenge in lining up the edges of the fondant but with a little patience it all came together.

My son loved the maraschino cherries and actually put those on himself. Overall we were very happy with how this cake turned out and it was a big hit at his party.
