Coolest Race Car Cake

My son is obsessed with NASCAR, and in particular, Jeff Gordon. I took the Wilton cake pan that looks like a VW bug and baked my race car cake in it.

After the cake cooled, I shaved off some of the rounded edges to make it look more like a race car. I frosted it all with blue buttercream frosting and then began piping in details. I found tons of pictures online so that I could do the cake as accurately as possible.

For the rear spoiler, I took a pretzel rod and covered it with black frosting. Then I took two small birthday candles and melted them onto the pretzel rod for support. Then I just inserted that into the back of the cake.

For the cake board, I just colored in alternating squares until it looked like a checkered flag and printed out a NASCAR emblem. I covered the cake board with saran wrap, and we were good to go!
