Coolest Racetrack Birthday Cake

My daughter suggested to make a cars cake for my son’s 8th birthday, so I googled racetracks images, and luckily found this site. I got such great ideas, but I only had 1 large sheet of chocolate cake, white cream icing, and a few signs + cars.

So I decided to make the 8-shaped track, which coincided with his age too, and decorate the rest as a background with dark and white checks (for F1). I didn’t want to cut out just the 8, because I only had half an hour to decorate it, not enough time to cover the sides, and also it had to be a large cake so as to feed about 100 people.

The whole Homemade Racetrack Birthday Cake was 75cmx44cm. I used a large and a small plastic container to mark out the 4 circles, overlapping them a bit to form the 8. I drew and colored in the signs for start, finish, happy birthday, his name, and the flags. I also put in a photo stuck to a straw at the back. I added some road signs from his car set, and made a traffic signal with red, yellow and green balls.

The cars are from his collection, but I rested them on plastic film, so they didn’t get cream on them. I should have done that for the signs too, because the cream was hard to wash off.

He loved it, and everyone admired it.
