Coolest Racing Car Cake

I started by making a 2 rectangle cakes, one a chocolate sponge and the other a Victoria sponge. For the base of the race car cake I melted 3 bars of dark chocolate in a glass bowl over a saucepan of boiling water. Using an icing knife I spread the melted chocolate over the entire chocolate cake and put in the fridge to set.

For the car I cut two smaller rectangles(both the same size for the main part of the car), an archway shape(for the front of the car) and 4 small circles (for the wheels). Using jam, I placed the 2 smaller rectangles on top of each other and then on top of the first cake, I then used jam again to place the archway shape cake in front of the other 2 rectangles, this gave me the outline of the car.

Using a scrap of the remaining cake I placed on top of the 2 rectangles to make the back of the car.

Using red pre rolled icing I covered the whole cake. For the wheels I covered each of the 4 small circle cakes with black icing and used jam to keep in place. I then attached all 4 wheels using a small amount of butter icing to the car body. For the driver I made the head from icing and the viser from black icing. For the finishing bits I used icing pens to add the name, numbers and car crest.
