Easy Homemade Racing Car Cake

I made this racing car cake for a boy’s fifth birthday. The cake itself was just a plain butter cake mix I made up, then I cut a slice off the side and made that into a smaller square and placed on top. Then I trimmed the sides of the top piece on a sloping angle. I covered the whole cake with green tinted butter frosting.

The black outlines and bumper were made with assorted licorice. I also used some green coloured coconut to decorate the sides and top of the car. I used Smarties for the headlights, indicator lights and a license plate.

The racing stripe was made from some rainbow candy straps I found. The wheels were made using a round chocolate bar and I also sliced a thinner slice of the chocolate bar in half to make the steering wheel.
