Coolest Rainbow Birthday Cake

This Homemade Rainbow Birthday Cake was the first cake with a frozen buttercream transfer I made. I made 2 box mixes to make sure I had enough batter. I divided the batter into six bowls and dyed them, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. The best cake mix to use is obviously white.

I took 2 9 inch round cake pans and in the first one the order from first to last was: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. In the other 9 inch round pan the order was: purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.

I made the frozen buttercream transfer and put the colors in rainbow order from red to purple. All the icing is buttercream. I love how it turned out. My daughter’s loved it! This is a cake that any child would like. This can also be done with cupcakes, just scoop each color in rainbow order. Awesome!

  1. Hey there,
I was just wondering what you meant about frozen icing – Did you mean you used some icing you had previously frozen or did you freeze the whole cake and defrost it?
    Many thanks,

  2. Love your cake! How on earth did you pour the cake batter in the pans and keep them from running while you put the next color in, and so on?

    Thanks!

  3. It is a frozen buttercream transfer for the rainbow. U can look up how to do them on the internet.

The batter is thick enough that the colors will not mix.
