Coolest Scooby Doo Cake

I made this Scooby Doo Cake for my nephew Kai who turned 4 this year. It is a marble cake with chocolate buttercream filling on one and Cookies’n’Cream filling on the other.

I used colored buttercream for the icing and fondont for Shaggy, Scooby and The Mystery Machine (which is on the other side of the cake). I cut out the shapes by drawing and cutting out a stencil which I placed on top of the rolled out fondant. After I cut the shapes out I let the fondant dry out for a day or so and then I painted them using petal dust and vodka.

They were quite brittle as you can tell I had a couple breaks along the way.

I created the scuba ghost about 2 weeks before using gum paste (took almost a week to dry completely) and then I painted it with coloring paste, which I learned later that was a mistake because it never really dried properly (it was a bit sticky) – next time I will use the petal dust method! When the cake was almost done, I put the scuba ghost on top of the cake & used royal icing for the seaweed around him.

After all the things that happened with this cake, it still turned out pretty good & was a hit with the rest of the family!

Hope you like it!
