Coolest Skull Bride Cake Design

My 7 year old niece is really into Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)…and Princesses….and corpse brides…..and well, bones in general. She wanted all of this at her 7th birthday in January thus the Skull Bride Cake Design. I used a skull cake pan and added the roses for a princess feel and added the two side cakes for the number of guests, candles (cool black and white ones ala Beetlejuice) and for her name and birthday number. I just used the star tip method – just remember not to get greedy!

When the stars start to lose definition, the icing it to warm. Put the bag back in the fridge for ten minutes and rest your hands. We are fortunate to have a Whole Foods near by with organic pesticide free flowers – nothing spoils a party like people getting sick and dieing! Make sure your flowers won’t hurt people!

Because the party was in January, we cleaned out the Halloween clearance sales in November. The party room at the local library was filed skeletons – some folks recognized the Dia de los Muertos others thought we must really be into the Grateful Dead (we should have served cheese sandwiches)! For a fun game, we hid tiny skeletons in a plastic storage box filled with sand and the kids had to be forensic anthropologist and find them with paint brushes from the dollar store. Her mother and I were a little concerned how other parents would take it all, but everyone thought it was fun and unique.
