I made 5 round cakes in effort to have at least two I could work with. Made silver white cake from scratch, but really any cake can be used. Froze cake to make it easier to work with. Used one round as face and cut out an ear and his hair spikes (is that hair?!). Froze pieces again then stuck them together with frosting. Froze again.
I actually did the blue frosting first and as I shaped him I refroze several times to prevent errors. I did the white frosting next and then the peach. I used detailing gel to outline, create nose, and eyes. I was so tickled with how this Sonic Birthday Cake turned out on my first try.
I forgot to mention that the right ear is just painted on. No cut out cake is required.
Just saw your cake after submitting mine, what a great job! You did yours a lot like I did mine too! Oh what we go through to make our kids happy!
Mine was my first try too, and like you, I was tickled!!
We are some talented moms!
Thanks. I am sure yours was great too. Maybe next time I will take on the body as well.
I found your cake and had to try it out for my son’s 7th birthday party. Your image and advice was spot on. I’m so happy I was brave enough to try this.
I am so glad you decided to give it a try. That was one of my favorites by far!
