Coolest Spiderman Cake

I used the Wilton cake pan to make the Spiderman cake. I used Wilton food coloring gel in black and royal blue to tint the icing. The icing was made using Wilton’s Buttercream icing recipe. I added a bit of cocoa powder to achieve the black without a ton of tint. My cakeboard was just a few sheets of cardboard with a couple of rulers taped on them for stability. I then covered the cardboard with red wrapping paper.

To decorate the cake:

I always freeze my cake before decorating. Using icing thinned with clear corn syrup, decorate the sides of the cake. Outline the Spiderman and all webs in grey using tip #3. Outline and fill in whites of eyes with tip #3. Smooth them with a finger dipped in cornstarch. Do the area around the eyes the same way with black.

The rest of the cake is filled in using #16 star tip. I used a #32 tip to create a bottom border for the Spiderman.

I then created the cupcakes with the same star tip. Finally I drew some webs on the cake board using the #3 tip. The kid’s loved it. They especially liked the cupcakes that started with their initial’s!
