Coolest Spongebob Birthday Cake

This Spongebob Birthday Cake was made for my son’s first birthday. I used a Spongebob stuffed toy as my example. I used one box cake and a square sheet pan and added coloring to the mix, I believe it was red swirl. I cheated by using premade frosting and coloring using chocolate frosting for his pants.

I cut him out of and used the extra cut pieces to form his legs and arms. It took some playing around with to get those areas frosted. I prepared all the colors in advanced and placed them in Ziploc bags the black and red. I frosted the body of Spongebob with the yellow icing (made with coconut syrup and yellow coloring), drew in the eyes and colored them with the frosting bag carefully then carefully frosted the waistband, drew in the tie and “shirt” and colored it using the Ziploc colored frosting.

I used candies (gum drops cut in half to press into the yellow of his body, pretzels for his nose and feet and marshmallows for his shoes. I added on little bits and pieces of candy that would match like toosie rolls. I just wanted to have fun with it and it came out pretty good.
