Coolest Super Mario DS Cake

This Super Mario DS Cake was for my grandson’s “family” birthday party. It is made from 2 boxed marble cakes and is iced with Dalphine Blue buttercreme. I was trying to get a silver blue color. I purchased the edible imagines from a local cake decorating supply shop. They were able to print both 4×6 images on one sheet and the cost was $6.50 total.

Everything else on the cake is homemade buttercreme icing using different tips to achieve the desired effect. I used a #12 for the dividing line and marked it with the spatula to create the dents. This was also used to create the buttons on the right/left, the edge of the pictures and the border around the bottom edge of the cake. A #3 was used to write on the buttons, the “start, select”, and the lines on the arrow button on the left. I simply used the bottom of the artist brush to make the speakers on the top portion of the cake. The cake was baked in an 11x15x2 pan.

The only thing I didn’t like about doing this cake was the images. I had never used them before and the edges cracked when I tried to cut it from the larger sheet they were printed on. I always learn something new from each cake my grandkids challenge me with!
