Coolest Teapot Birthday Cake

I made this Teapot Birthday Cake for my sister in law’s birthday. I used the Wilton ball pan and a 6in round cake in the middle. I used what I cut off the bottom of the cake for the lid. I used MM fondant for the spout and handle, but forgot to make the ball for the lid and handles for the cups. I just used icing for the ball on the lid (piped it on with large round tip) and royal icing for the cup handles (I made in advance and let dry). I iced the cake smooth with pink and added details in yellow.

The cups were cupcakes. I used chocolate cake so I just left the tops of the cups plain to look like dark tea or coffee.

The only disappointment was I added the handle too early and I put the cake back into the fridge and when I took it out later the handle had gotten soft so it broke. This is my second cake so I am still learning and I had never done anything with fondant before this.

  1. Very cute! I’ll be making a teapot cake in January so I’ll be looking at your cake for ideas again! I would have made the same mistake with the handle but now I won’t cuz you gave me a good warning! I’ve seen a bunch of teapots but none of the one’s I’ve seen so far have teacups! Thanks for the ideas!
