Coolest Third Birthday Track Cake

My son got the first Cars movie for the Christmas before his birthday and has been obsessed ever since. You’ll be able to tell from my description of this Third Birthday Track Cake that I am not familiar with cake terms, but was still able to make a cake my son loved!

For the cake I made a regular 9×13 chocolate cake. I dyed some vanilla icing green and iced the whole cake. I then used a food processor to grind up Oreo cookies. I started with 10 and did more as I needed them (a few go a long way). I then used a toothpick to outline the number 3 on the cake and slowly pinched on the cookie crumbs to fill in the outline of the 3. I used an icing piping gun to outline the 3 in white and a store bought yellow cake writer to make the lines on the track. I kept toothpicks handy to get any stray crumbs back into my 3 outline, or to disconnect the yellow icing from the writer onto the cake.

Finally I used the icing piping gun and a bigger tip to go all around the base of the cake with small blobs. The cars on the track are from his collection and the small cardboard background is from the package of one of his Cars sets.
