Coolest Thomas the Train Birthday Cake

This Thomas the Train Birthday cake consisted of two round cakes; one was 10″ and the other 6″. They were made with buttercream frosting and fondant details. This was my first fondant cake; I made it with a friend and we were really happy with it.

  1. How did you do the matching font/clouds? I am going to attempt to make a version of your cake for my son who will be turning 3 and would love to know how you go it so exact.

  2. I am going to attempt something like this for my son’s 3rd birthday this month.
What did you make the sign out of at the top and how did you get it to stand up?

  3. I’m planning to make something like this for my son’s party, and did some research on the font. It’s very similar to “Flange BQ Bold” (just do a search on that to find/download it). Enjoy!

  4. You did a perfect job on this cake! It is exactly what I was looking for to help finalize plans for my son’s cake. I love your clean lines but still whimsical look, the different shades of green for the hillsides, and your trees are so cute!! Excellent job!

  6. Great cake! It looks as if you may have a tunnel on the sides of the cake… do you have photos of that that you could send me?

  8. Thanks Everyone! I’m so sorry I’m just seeing these comments…I would have answered back on your questions. This cake was a first for me, and a great friend helped me along the way.
Yes, there is a tunnel entrance on either side of the cake, and a sunshine, more clouds, apple trees, and an additional set of farm animals on the back. All decorations and the #3 were made of marshmallow fondant. Clouds were made of royal icing, and cloud topper with message was foam board attached to toothpicks with melted white chocolate. I printed the message out, glued it to foam board, and cut all out with exacto knife. Thomas trains were the small die-cast ones…and the scale worked great.

  9. I’ve tried to comment before, but it hasn’t shown up, so I apologize if you never got my response. Thank you for the kind words! This cake was iced in BC, all decorations were made of marshmallow fondant& gumpaste. Clouds were made of Royal icing, and cloud topper was printed onto foam board, cut out and “glued” to toothpicks w/ white chocolate. There is a tunnel on either side of the cake, and the backside has duplicate animals, trees, and a sunshine. The thomas trains are the small diecast toys. HTH!
