Coolest Thomas the Train Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my son’s 4th birthday. I used the 3d Wilton train pan and yellow cake mix (from a box) for the train, the base of the cake I made marble cake by filling the 11×13 pan first with yellow cake mix then making a batch of chocolate cake mix, pouring lines of the chocolate mix on top of the yellow mix. Using a butter knife to give cake a marbled look.

I decorated Thomas first, though I did learn to not decorate until you have the cake assembled, as I had to go back and fix one side of him. I put the two 11×13 pans side by side and frosted as one large cake with buttercream frosting. I then piped the train tracks and added Thomas to the top of the cake.

I used all buttercream frosting for the decorating. I used mostly the 16 and the 3 tips from Wilton for all the designs. I also used the Wilton press for the lettering. Thomas was all 16 star design, I did by looking at a picture of him, all lines or outlines were done with the 3 tip. The black is Wilton tube frosting, since it is very difficult to get the color to true black.

This homemade Thomas the Train birthday cake was enough for just about 75-100 people!!!!
