Coolest Tinkerbell Cake

I made this Tinkerbell cake for my 3 year old’s birthday. She is such a huge fan of Tinkerbell, and thought it would be a lot of fun to try, even as a first attempt at making 3-D cakes. I made a strawberry cake in the Wilton Barbie cake pan and used butter cream frosting for the ‘mushroom’ part of the cake that she sat on.

The base of the mushroom was made of cardboard which was taped to the cardboard base that held the cake. Tinkerbell’s legs, wings and all the bugs were made of fondant, and some were placed on the cake using toothpicks. Each were tinted with the Tinkerbell color set I bought.

Then I tinted the frosting for her dress with green color that also came from the Tinkerbell color set I bought. I did place the final cake on top of another stable base (cake stand) so that it was easier to move around.

I don’t think that I gave the fondant enough time to dry, since some of the wings started drooping. When I did dry them, I place tin foil underneath the areas that I wanted to be curved or not flat.
