Coolest Twilight Birthday Cake

My 12 year old niece is really into the Twilight books so for her birthday I decided to be super creative and try to make the hands holding the apple from the cover of the first book in the series.

To make this challenging Twilight Birthday Cake I made two bundt cakes and froze them the week before because I knew I had a lot to do to get ready for this cake. The, I made a delicious homemade easy marshmallow fondant recipe I found online. I have had a terrible time getting true red, so I made it added red and wrapped it in the fridge overnight. I ended up adding a whole little container of Wilton’s no-taste red by the end of the week and a tiny bit of blue and I still never got the red I was hoping for.

I also made more fondant for the hands and arms and used Wilton’s peach color. The night before the party, I made rice krispy treats and molded them into the shape of the arms and hands. I then covered them with the peach fondant. I used the two bundt cakes to make the apple shape.

I used red gel coloring and painted it onto the red fondant to get the color I was hoping for. Then I used chocolate frosting and added Wilton’s black color to make it black. (I got that idea from this website!) I tried to get the lettering to look like the book. I used some left over fondant and dyed it brown and green to make the stem and leaf.

Everyone loved the way this cake tasted and looked.
