For this UFC Birthday Cake Design, I stacked two round cakes with a buttercream filling. I shaped them into an octagon using a cake knife

I started with chocolate frosting and used black food gel. If you start with a chocolate frosting rather than a vanilla, then it’s not as hard to get it dark black. You won’t have to use as much gel. I smoothed the icing on and used colored frosting to write the “UFC” logo in the center.

For the “cage” I used cut wooden dowels that I spray painted black. I used some black tulle fabric to wrap around the dowels after they had been placed and secured them with hot glue at the end. The tulle tends to cling to the wood so it stayed pretty well.
