This Valentine Cake Design is my very first fondant covered cake. I got the idea from this website.

It is a two layer chocolate cake filled with buttercream and sour cherry filling (somewhat like a black forest cake). I used store bought chocolate cake mix and a vanilla icing mix for the buttercream. I made a syrup from sour cherry juice to moisten the layers. I spread a thin layer of buttercream icing all over the cake before covering with fondant. It is a marshmallow fondant.

The recipe is from the Wilton website. I used my Kitchenaid mixer to knead the fondant and it worked great. No mess!

I colored some of the fondant, cut out the heart shapes and made the roses. I attached the hearts to the side with buttercream icing. All in all it took about 4 hours.
