Coolest Volleyball Birthday Cake

I made this volleyball birthday cake for a friend who loves volleyball. It it only my third cake so not perfect by any means. Here’s how I did it.

First by baking the cake( boxed) in a oven safe bowl, I turned the heat down slightly so that it would cook more evenly. I then did the usual cut horizontally and put filling in the middle, carved it to a round shape, and covered it with butter cream icing. I then rolled out white fondant and covered the cake. I used a fondant tool with a slightly rounded tip and drew the lines on pushing hard enough to hold shape but not enough to go all of the way through.

I painted the lines on. Because of time constraints I didn’t have time to do the net how I would like and it turned out to be a bit of a mess. But it is royal icing. With tooth pics behind to support it.

It turned out a bit lumpy but for a cake in a hurry it wasn’t to bad.
