Coolest Winnie the Pooh Birthday Cake

I made this Winnie the Pooh Birthday Cake for my friend’s little girl’s 1st birthday. She requested a Winnie the Pooh chocolate tiered cake with a purple, pink and yellow color scheme. She wanted a honey pot with the look of honey pouring out from the top. I used an 8×2 inch Wilton round and doubled it up for the bottom. I then used four 6 in rounds for the honey pot. In order to carve the honey pot easily, I put the layers in the freezer first. After carving, I inserted dowels to help support the honey pot on top of the bottom layer.

The frosting and fondant was homemade. I used a butter-cream frosting for all the layers, except the pot. I used a combo of shortening and butter-cream for that layer to give it a better effect. For the smooth appearance on the bottom layer, I put the cake in the fridge to cool it down a bit and then proceeded to smooth it out with a fondant smoother and a Viva paper towel. All the decor around the the cake was made from marshmallow fondant tinted to the appropriate colors. My friend provided the figurines to help finish off the look!

All in all, this was a pretty hard cake to make, but loved every second making it!

  1. I forgot to mention that you should also put a round cake board in between the honeypot and bottom cake so it does not sink into each other!
