Coolest Winnie the Pooh Cake

I made this Winnie the Pooh cake for my son’s first birthday. I came up with Winnie the Pooh idea because his room is decorated with that theme. It took about a month to decide what the cake would look like. I began sketching the cake and looking at several books for ideas. Then I thought “Winnie the Pooh lives in the 100 acre wood”. I would make the cake to resemble a log that was cut into.

I made the cake in two layers the bottom is a 12″ round butter cake and the second layer is a 12″ round butter cake cut in half. The layers are placed on top of each other with a cake board and wooden pegs to support the layers. I then decorated the cake with chocolate buttercream icing using a #21 tip and made the wood knots first then a up and down zigzag pattern for the wood grain look.

For the grass I used buttercream icing dyed green and a #233 tip. My son’s personal cake was made from a mini bundt pan with the same batter as the large cake and decorated the same way. Once the cake was decorated I placed the characters on the cake.

  1. Hi I really loved your cake and I decided to do one similar for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. Could you please explain how you do the grass and also can you tell me how to do the icing. Thanks

  2. Thank you for all your nice comments. I can’t believe I am getting ready to make my son’s 2nd birthday cake. Where has the time gone to? I am thinking of making him a train cake since he loves “Cho-Cho’s”
