Easy Hello Kitty Cake

My niece loves Hello Kitty! She’s actually quite easy to make…an easy beginner cake. I bought the Wilton Hello Kitty cake pan. I froze the cake for about 2 hours to make frosting easier. I used homeade buttercream icing for all areas, coloring them red for her bow and yellow for her nose. I did purchase a tube of black icing for her eyes and whiskers. Mixing black is messy!! I used a medium sized star tip to fill in the cake. Although I used a crusting buttercream, it was not necessary to apply the crusting layer, as the stars to an ample job of covering the cake. It helps if you fill in the dark colors (the bow, eyes, nose whiskers) first. To smooth the eyes, nose, and center of each side of the bow, I used a paint brush and water. At my niece’s request, I also made some cupcakes. I bought a cupcake kit available at Target for the cute cupcake picks. I used the buttercream frosting on the cupcakes also. I bought cans of air brush  color spray to decorate the cupcakes along with colored sprinkles. My niece was very happy with her cake!! I hope you enjoy the photos!
