My son loves Giggle and Hoot (ABC4Kids) so I decided to make a Hoot cake for his second birthday.
Ahead of time I made the fondant details (feet, wings (which I dried over shaped cling wrap to give curves/character), stars brushed with edible glitter, beak and eyes – which were wrapped over/around chocolate mint biscuits). I added eye details with a fine brush and food colouring, and stitching with black gel icing.
After baking 2 round cakes I trimmed and positioned on top of a board I covered with silver star contact. I crumb coated and let set, before piping bright blue white chocolate buttercream icing all over using a star tip. I used a little icing to secure fondant pieces in place.
Such a simple cake was a huge hit amongst the children and adults at the party, but most of all, it was much loved by my son!
