Coolest Blues Clue Birthday Cake Ideas

This Blues Clue birthday cake design was made for my friend’s little girl who just loves Blue. I used two cake mixes and two cake pans, the first pan I cut out the ears and the second pan I cut out the head. For the frosting I used three cans of Betty Crocker white fluffy frosting using blue food coloring, to put on cake I used a rose bud tip on the cake decorator, for the spots I used darker blue sprinkles.

For the eyes I cut a thin sliver from a marshmallow and a sliver from a chocolate Easter egg. For the nose I cut the shape from scrap pieces of cake (not as thick as the cake just a sliver). For the mouth I cut a small section out of the cake and used a red gel frosting and TA DA. Blues Clues emerged…

I was pretty proud of this birthday cake design and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I t d id take quite a while to do the blue frosting but when I saw my friend’s little girl’s face it was worth it!

Blue's Clues Cake

I made this Blues Clue cake for my son’s 1st birthday. I printed out a picture of the head and body I got from the Internet. They worked really well and turned out pretty good. For the paws I just cut out circles from the cake.

I pretty much just iced her whole body with the lighter blue icing. Then did her spots and paws and the outlines in the darker blue. Then I did the fine details such as her eyes and tongue. I finished it off with a star tip around the bottom of the cake all around it. Made it look nice.

My son really liked the Blues Clue cake and dug right into it!!!

This Blues Clue cake was pretty easy to make although time consuming, but aren’t all cakes!!!

Blue's Clues Cake

I made a Blue’s Clue’s birthday cake design for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. I used the Wilton Blue’s Clue’s cake pan and directions.  Here are my tips to make things easier:

Use the back of a baby feeding spoon to ice around the sides. It works great and is just the right size.and is a lot cheaper than the Wilton tools.

I use Fleischmann’s Margarine for the Wilton Butter cream Icing. It has a great taste and good consistency. Make all the colors of the icing before you start and keep them in the fridge. It will make things go faster as you ice the cake.

I covered a plastic serving tray with Blue’s Clue’s wrapping paper and used some wax paper so it wouldn’t come apart.,

Blue's Clues Cake

Here’s My Blue’s Clues Birthday Cake Design:

When I asked my son what kind of cake he wanted for his second birthday, his response was “My best friend, Mom.” Therefore, my task from then on was to figure out how to make a Blue’s Clues cake that would make my son smile!!!

As you can tell by the picture, my son not only smiled when he saw the cake, he LAUGHED!!! He wouldn’t allow me to place candles on it and instead of the traditional “Happy Birthday” song, we sang the theme from “Blue’s Clues.”

This cake is SO EASY to make as you can see from the easy to follow steps below:

  • 2 boxes (16 oz. each) pound-cake mix
  • 6 chocolate-covered, cream-filled snack cakes
  • 3 cans (16 oz. each) prepared vanilla frosting
  • Royal blue paste food coloring
  • 4 strips blue taffy (AirHeads)
  • 1 strip pink taffy (AirHeads)
  • Butter or margarine for greasing pan
  • Flour for dusting pan
  • 8-in. round baking pan
  • 8- by 13-in. baking pan
  • Toothpicks (for holding blue’s paws)
  • Blue’s Cake Printable Templates

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8-inch round baking pan and an 8- by 13-inch baking pan. Prepare cake mixes according to package directions. Pour 3 1/2 cups of batter into the round cake pan and the remaining batter into the rectangular one. Bake until golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; about 35 to 40 minutes for the round and 45 to 50 minutes for the rectangle. Transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool for ten minutes. Invert and cool completely.

Step 2: Print the Blue’s Cake Printable Templates and place the paper templates onto the cooled cakes. Cut out pieces using a small knife. Arrange cake pieces onto a serving platter or cardboard covered with foil. Trim some of the scraps to make Blue’s tail, arm, and paw. Stack two snack cakes together with a toothpick for her paws and feet. Cut a small wedge from one stack so her left foot will fit close to the cake.

Step 3: Divide 1/2 cup of frosting into two bowls. Tint one a dark blue and one a very dark royal blue. Transfer each color into a resealable bag. Spoon 1/4 cup of white frosting into a resealable bag. Tint the remaining frosting a light blue. Frost the entire cake with the light blue frosting using a small spatula.

Step 4: Heat the taffy in the microwave for a few seconds to soften. Roll out the blue taffy so that it’s 1/8 inch thick. Cut out Blue’s spots from the taffy and place on top of the cake. Reheat and re-roll scraps if necessary. For her tongue, cut pink taffy into shape and press the back of a knife down the center for the crease.

Step 5: Cut around Blue’s eyes from Blue’s face printable. Use a toothpick to mark the eyes’ shape. Fill in areas with tinted frostings for paw and facial features.

Blue's Clues Cake

For this Blues clue cake I used a variety of round cakes cut in half and standing upright to form Blue’s head and body. I used a dome-shaped cake for Blue’s rear quarters. I made his ears out of fondant and his paws I built up with icing. I use my own buttercream recipe and just have fun and create!!!

Blue's Clues Cake

I made this Blues Clue cake for my son for his 3rd birthday in May 2004. He is a big fan of Blue’s Clues. I enlarged and printed a picture of Blue and used a basic recipe for a white cake and frosting. I then used the picture to make Blue out of Fondant, which I molded and died various colors of Blue, red & white. I used an air brush gun to “paint” the top layer of the cake blue. The balloon and the Happy Birthday sign are also molded with Fondant. It is a pretty easy thing to do if you have the time because it does take some time to make the cake.

Blue's Clues Cake

For this Blues Clue Cake and Cupcakes I used colored chocolates to trace over an image I printed from the Blues Clue website. I used a sheet of acetate plastic film, placed it over the printed image of Blue and then traced using colored chocolate.

Blue's Clues Cake

I needed to feed more people than a regular Wilton pan so we set blue on top of a top of a 11×15 slab. I added Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, and Magenta on this Blues Clue Cake.

Blue's Clues Cake

I made this Blues Clue cake for my son’s 1st birthday. I used a friend’s banana cake recipe. To ice it I used fresh cream tinted with blue colour, marshmallows & jelly beans for the eyes. It was a big hit at the party and everyone just loved it.

Blue's Clues Cake

This Blues Clue cake was actually one of the first cakes I’ve ever attempted to make. I found a template online to use to cut “Blue” out of a 1/2 sheet cake and then iced him with butter cream frosting.

Blue's Clues Cake

Like many of my character cakes I usually go online and look for a picture that I think I can freehand on the cake.

I simply drew the Blues Clue picture out on the cake after I iced it. I use the end of a rose nail, this way it’s easy to smooth it back out if you mess up. After I got the Blues Clue drawing how I like it, I airbrushed the background and filled in my Blues Clue drawing with the star tip #18.

I used Icing for the Blue’s eyes and mouth as well. In this case I was given an invitation for the little girls birthday, so I just added little spirals and hearts in the background to customize it for her party.
