Shark Cake

This shark cake I made for son’s 7th birthday party. He loves sharks and has read an awful lot about them.

The cake has been carved out of two 13×9 rectangular home made chocolate cakes, layered one on top of the other using butter cream icing as glue.

I carved the cake using a small kitchen knife and some common – sense .

Then I mounted him on a rectangular shaped foam board (covered with Aluminum foil.)

Then I covered him with butter cream icing and one thin layer of MMF fondant, then sprayed blue color mist on him. I used one of my kitchen brushes to paint his black blue.

I did not use any grey coloring at all since I don’t think grey has any appeal to the human taste bud. I decorated the ocean floor using cookie crumbs, Swedish fish, Gold fish, and gummy-based clown fish. The green algae and shells are made out of fondant. I spent 2 days on it! But it was fun and quite a great learning experience.

It was the first carved/iced and decorated cake I ever made!

I also made a Shark and Rainbow fish Pinata for the party.
