This is for my fiance sister’s birthday. This cake was created from Pillsbury white cake mixes. Layers colored her favorite color (purple). The cake was torte and layered white and purple every other. Made from scratch was the chocolate simple butter cream to ice the cake. Decorations on the cake were royal icing. The cake was covered with fondant from Wilton (Wal-Mart). Royal icing butterflies, flowers, and fondant bow were made from scratch. Decoration on border was royal icing and technique was Cornelia lace. Number was also made out of royal icing. This was full of time and energy but fun the whole way. It was worth putting this much work into it for the reaction received.
The children loved eating all the decorations on the cake. The cake was delicious light and fluffy. Icing had a rich but light chocolate flavor. A guest stated that it tasted like magic/ heaven in their mouth. Also was Beautiful in one word summed it up was from another guest. Other guests were asking what else could you make with royal icing? The cake was a great conversation piece for most part of the party.
The hardest part was fighting with the temperature of the room for the fondant and the right consistency with the royal icing.
Loved making this cake and took a lot of the experience from this cake and revised it for the next cakes.
