Cool Homemade Tank Cake

I made this Tank cake for my son’s 8th birthday, he loves army and pretending to be a soldier so what a great idea for a special unique cake which i got from the website.

I looked at everyone’s ideas and this was my finished product.I used a loaf tin for the turret and cut a square out of the base. After the cakes cooled I heated some jam and left to cool, while I rolled out the icing (I used the ready to roll stuff to get smooth edges.) I spread the cooled jam over the cakes and put the rolled icing once shaped I cut the excess icing off.

I mixed red and green food colouring to get the colour. I added a bit of icing sugar to the food coluring as I found with just the colouring it was running and didn’t look right.

I used chocolate buttons for the wheels and curly wurlys for the tracks and a twirl for the barrel of the gun. Finally to finish off I used a toy soldier(legs removed)and crushed Shreddies cereal for the ground.

My son loved it and so did all his friends. It was well worth making!
