Homemade Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake

Homemade Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake

My daughter turned 4 and wanted an Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake for her party. I wanted to do a Tinkerbell doll cake, but she didn't want a bar of it! So i thought OK, tried everywhere to look for a figurine, or candle but found nothing. I was happy to do a simple base.

So I Googled and found shapes of her, so I drew Angelina on baking paper, baked a butter cake in a rectangle tin, waited to cool cake down and then I cut the shape of her. Then I mixed two different butter icings, a pink and a white, drew with pink icing on the cake her dress and ballerina shoes, and put pink on her shoes and dress and her bow, then the rest of her is white!

Then went over with the pink writing icing over her dress, bow and shoes and her face etc. It was quite simple. I also cut a pink ribbon, and made a bow and put it on her bow.

Everyone loved it, my daughter loved it so much and wanted another one done on her actual birthday day! It wasn't too hard to do, considering it was my 1st time making a shaped cake. I have more confidence now to do more cakes for future.

Homemade Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake

My daughter asked for an Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake for her third birthday. I made a chocolate cake , a Mississippi Mud Pie. Once it had cooled down, I cut a little rectangle out to fit two plain biscuits for Angelina’s body. The biscuits can be glued together with some icing, and they need to stand about halfway into the base and be quite snug in the hole, as we don’t want Angelina to be wobbly !

I made Angelina’s head, tail, arms and legs with Marzipan. I used a bit of red food colouring to dye the marzipan for her dress, her nose and her ears. A bit of liquorice for her whiskers and her eyes.

I wrapped the pink Marzipan around the biscuits for her dress. I then attached her head and limbs to the biscuits, it is easy as the Marzipan is quite sticky. I then did her tutu with some pink sugar icing.

This cake was a lot of fun to make and my daughter loved it. And of course, the most important, it tasted really nice !

Angelina Ballerina Cake

My daughter loves Angelina ballerina. I hade to order all the party supplies from England. My neighbour is a pastry chef and made the cake for us. She matched the pink from the invitation and made the sugar sticks. Originally it was going to have a two tone (in pinks) on the side but she ran out of time. It had 4 layers on the inside with srawberries and butter cream frosting. I enlarged a picture of Angelina Ballerina (from the invitation) and glued it on to card-stock and then a popsicle stick. Everyone at the party was so impressed with the cake. All of her friends really wanted to a piece of the pink cake & some of them are still talking about it, after a week. It was the best thing my 4yr old could ask for! Of course she's asking for Kipper the dog for next year!

Homemade Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake

Homemade Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake

My daughter is going through an Angelina Ballerina stage and wanted her 3rd birthday cake to be an Angelina Ballerina Birthday Cake. My inspiration came partly from Cake Boss, where they did a circus freaks cake and partly from Neviepiecakes photostream as she does a lot of handpainting on her cakes. I went and bought an Angelina Ballerina book to copy the panels from.

The figure was a mix of the book Angelina and the TV show one. I had trouble getting the figure to stand up, next time I'll put a piece of dowel through the legs rather than just a piece of wire.

I'm glad you like the cake and am flattered that people want to copy an idea of mine, normally it's me copying other people's ideas ;)

Decorator tip

I love the classic, elegant look of this cake. I was experimenting a bit to determine what tip you used to create both the roses and the layered ribbons, but I couldn't figure it out. Would you mind sharing what tip number or tip style you used?
Thank you!
