Spiderman Cake

My son was turning 6 yrs old and he loves Spiderman. I wanted a Spidey cake without paying a lot of $$$ for it. So I compromised. I bought a plain round cake which was frosted with white buttercream frosting from a local grocery store.

I cut a Spiderman picture out of one of my son’s coloring books and I cut a piece of wax paper the same shape and taped it on the back of the picture.

I laid the picture with waxed paper on the back on the cake. I traced the outline of the photo with black gel decorator icing, when I was done tracing I lifted the picture off the cake. I drew the “spidey” eyes free hand and then I filled in the body with red decorator icing. I left the inside of the eyes white of course :). Then I went back to the black gel decorator icing and made the webbing on the suit. I used blue icing for the message!!

My son loved it, and my husband loved the price savings!

This was my first time trying this and it was a big hit at the party. The other information of this website from people who have done this kind of decoration on a cake helped me a lot.
