Coolest Puppy Cake

My wife and myself made this puppy cake for our daughter for her birthday. She wanted a new puppy but we were not on board for a live one so we tried for second best.

The cake was made from a box mix. We used a wood base with a smaller piece of wood set slightly raised to set the body on. We used one 9 by 13 inch pan for some body parts and some other different shaped pans for the rest. The back legs, ears and snout were made from krispie treats. Once we glued the puppy’s parts together it was ready to frost.

To frost the hair we used store bought frosting using a pastry bag and a small grass tip we went around the puppy starting from the bottom and layered the frosting up. The tail was made by wrapping foil around a wire then it was shaped and frosted. We used black jelly beans for the eyes and nose and black licorice for the collar. We then used green food coloring to make frosting for the grass and a krispie dog bone.

It took about four hours to complete. My daughter loved her cake and it took some courage to cut it up.
