Cute Homemade 2D Baby Einstein Caterpillar Cake

This Homemade Baby Einstein Caterpillar Cake was my first attempt at making a “home-made” cake. I had inherited a couple of metal tips from my mother-in-law and when the time came that I could not find a cake that I liked for my daughter, Emelia’s, 1st birthday, I thought I would attempt to make one myself.

I used the sports ball pan from Wilton and made white, yellow, and chocolate cakes. I made the buttercream icing found on Wilton’s website and colored it a couple of days in advance to get bright primary colors. I then just used tip #6 (I think) and used the pull up star method to ice the individual cakes. I used regular sized cupcakes with yellow icing for the feet and licorice whips for the antennae. I assembled all of the pieces together on a piece of plywood that my husband cut and I covered it with a plastic table cloth and spelled out Happy 1ST Birthday Emelia with refrigerator ABC magnets but apparently I forgot to take a “finished” picture.

Her smash cake was made up of an 8 x 8 cake and small (mini) cupcakes to form the caterpillar?s body and a cake kit that I bought online. I was very pleased with how it turned out and have since made several other cakes.
